Born in Maine just four years post-Civil War's cessation, Pliny Earle Goddard (November 24, 1869 July 12, 1928) was an important linguist, ethnographer and ethnologist from Columbia University (my alma mater), a student of "Papa" Franz Boas, earned him a Ph.D. there alongside other notable researchers including Ruth Underhill, Ruth Benedict, Ruth Bunzel, A.L. Kroeber, Edward Sapir and many, many others. His ethnography was focused on the Hupa and adjacent Athabaskan groups in northwestern California and then expanded to include Athabaskans of the Southwest, Canada, and Alaska. 333-338 pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards.
