Solid, cocked, exlib hardcover in red cloth covered boards with black titles showing fairly sharp tips and spine ends. no tears or major soil in the 223 pp text, just an occasional light fingerprint in the text margins. Card pocket pulled but all pages present. A few library stamps seen but do not obscure any reading. DJ shows a line drawing of a cowboy on a horse standing in front of a handmade rustic cross that marks someone's grave. Bright yellow background on frt panel and spine. Rear panel has an off white background and describes three other westerns from varied authors. The foot of the rear dj panel shows some transfer of brown library tape used to frame dust jackets into the mylar back in the day, however, there are NO call tags on the spine and no exlib marks on the front panel or backstrip. Displays well despite a pinch of color loss at tips and spine ends. To a young engineer just arrived in AZ to recover from a serious illness, the sight of a funeral ceremony was not particularly reassuring. Since there was no minister present, George Dean volunteered to read a few words from the prayer book. He learned that the man being buried, Frank Lincoln, had been killed while working on a water sluice at Elbow River, and that he had left a widow and a pretty daughter. Before Dean had really had time to consider what he was doing, he had agreed to stay at the Lincoln ranch long enough to complete the irrigation system Lincoln had started. This meant that whoever had killed Lincoln now had his rifle at the ready for Dean who, in addition to dodging bullets and working at the river, had to take care of his two charges and avenge their breadwinner's death. Gold as well as water plays a part in this exciting yarn about North of the Border country.
