Bifolium, 230 x 195 mm. torn with some loss to second page, in French and Dutch. Notice regarding the referendum to decide whether Napoleon should be appointed Consul for Life. The printed signature is that of Guillame-Charles Faipoult, Préfet of the Department of Escaut, in modern day Belgium. This copy is signed in manuscript by the Mayor of Jamise, in l’Escaut and dated 1 Prairial [Revolutionary date 20th May] [1802]. As a result of the referendum [3,653,600 ayes, 8272 noes] he was appointed Consul for life in August 1802. In December 1804 he crowned himself Emperor.
