Dublin: James Duffy, 1844. O'Connell, known as "The Liberator" was the most prominent figure for Irish nationalism and Roman Catholic emancipation in the mid-Nineteenth Century. First published in 1844, the same year O'Connell was released from a prison term. This is a Very Good copy of Volume One only of the Second Edition [stated].Green cloth binding, deoratively blindstamped on the covers. Titling in gilt on the spine; decorative heraldic device in gilt on the front cover. Clean text; frontis engraving, engraved half-title; xii, 347 pages. A sound copy but with some minor issues: bumped corners, soiling, and evidence of label removal on the spine. This is an ex-libris copy, with a label on the front paste-down from Ampleforth Abbey; however, this is the only treatment observed. Second Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6" - 7" tall.
