With twelve large tinted plates depicting children in adult guises, with each plate meant to depict a particular combination of related abstract traits, such as humanity and generosity, study and talent, politeness and amiability, work and knowledge, etc. The second concept in the pairings is essentially a refinement, a higher level, or the fruit of the first. Yet it is the oversized heads and ultra-refined Ancien Regime dress of the children engaged in adult activities that charms and beguiles. Scarce, with only copy located on OCLC FirstSearch at Princeton. Rebacked with cloth matching closely color-wise the paper pastedown. Closed tears in lower margin, none affecting pictorial content, repaired.
