In addition to the introductory essay, short commentaries appear with paired pictures throughout the book - Toulouse-Lautrec with Garry Winogrand, Dorothea Lange with Kathe Kollwitz, Lewis Carroll with Balthus, suggesting unexpected relationships and ways of looking at these compelling images.
