1921 hardcover, bound in brown cloth and stamped in gilt. 94 pages. Corners a little rounded; spine ends have wear. A bit of foxing here and there throughout, especially to black and white plates. No writing in book. Louisa Boyd Yeomans King (1863 1948) was an American gardener and author who became a leading advocate of gardening and horticulture, especially in connection with the garden club movement. She wrote on horticultural topics as Mrs. Francis King. ".I cannot express too earnestly the belief that nothing worth while will ever be done with suburban or any other gardens until we restore the fences and walls so ruthlessly torn down and abandoned around the latter quarter of the last century. Neither will it be possible to accomplish much while our ugliest inspiration is the work undertaken by real-estate development companies. They were responsible for this destruction of boundary markings in the first place, in their endeavors to make streets 'catchy'." We suspect she might not approve of bringing a horticulture.
