Full brown cloth with vignette of farmhouse within arched frame; series title above, book title below; the whole within decorative borders. This is an early example of multiple colors being used for a publisher's series binding: the vignette is black, the arched frame and lettering in russet, and the borders in blue. Rear board blindstamped with borders. Modest foxing to first few and last few pages, very light wear to extremities. Near fine. Described by the publisher as having an "illuminated design," this is one of the first three books Appleton produced in this handy series. This title has illustrations throughout as well as relevant advertisements on the endpapers.
